Recent Foodcraft

Sheau and I have been trying to make large quantities of food on the weekends to reduce the time we spend cooking during the week. Here are a couple of my recent results:

Honey roasted almonds : I followed this recipe - one of the few I found that didn't involve sugar. The recipe says to bake 5 - 10 minutes. A more useful metric imo is when the butter/honey mixture turns a somewhat dark brown, but not burnt. Short of that, the almonds aren't crunchy.

Calzone : This was unreasonably ambitious on my part. I think I spent 6 hrs on it last Sunday. Fortunately the results are acceptable. I started with this recipe - but changed the almost everything. I made tomato sauce from tomatoes we had (plus a little squash, apple, onion, garlic). I also had self-rising flour, so I used that. Besides the tomato sauce I put italian sausage, and cheese. And (I learned this from Sheau's mom) I brushed egg yolk on the top before baking to make it look like that.
